The Guides

Sweetwater Travel has made its name by exploring wild, exotic fisheries and by associating itself with professional guides for whom guiding is a profession, not a summer job. The Montana fly fishing guides are all independent contractors or work for our outfitting partners in each destination.

Charlie Conn
Charlie has guided for our Mongolian partner since 1998. During his time in Mongolia, Charlie has aided us greatly in naming the runs on the river, understanding the Taimen behavior, and, of course, entertaining us with his never-ending himor. When Charlie is not in Mongolia, he is guiding in Montana on the Missouri or the Yellowstone River. Charlie resides in Livingston, Montana.

Dave Goodhart
We first met Dave when he limped off a helicopter on the Ponoi River in 1992. Since that time, we have had the pleasure of fishing with Dave all over the world. Dave has managed camps in Mongolia and Alaska, and he is presently operating as a consultant for the Wild Salmon Center. Dave starred in ESPN’s Fly-Fishing America in 1994 to 1995 and has entertained fishermen throughout the world with his talent, his wit, and his unending supply of trivia. Dave lives with his wife, Beth, in Missoula.

Matt Ramsey
Matt has guided for our Mongolian partner since 1998. There is probably nobody who understands Taimen better than Matt. To date, he has taped the largest fish we have landed in Mongolia. As a die-hard fisherman, Matt has also guided in Alaska, and presently operates his own business, Two Dudes Flyfishing in Eugene, Oregon. Matt lives with his wife in Eugene, Oregon when he is not surfing the tubes of Oregon, California, or Mexico. .

Tracy Peterson
Tracy is a signature fly tier and designer for the world’s largest fly distributor. When Tracy isn’t at the vise he finds time to manage and guide at our Montana lodge and instruct at our Fly Fishing Guide Training School. A skilled oarsman, fisherman and of course fly tier, Tracy is most famous for his killer BBQ ribs. Tracy resides in Corvallis, Oregon with his lovely wife Mary and their young son Quin.
